Former Republican Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel has purged his social media accounts, which were known in Ohio politics for their sometimes testy tone.

As of Thursday morning, Mandel, 41, had apparently deleted all of his posts on Twitter and Facebook. He also made his Twitter account private, although the nearly 15,000 followers he previously had are still accessible.
Mandel’s Facebook is similarly barren, with zero posts and just a few photos online.
It was a mysterious move that raised questions about what Mandel’s next move might be, especially given the fact that he had more than $3.6 million in federal campaign accounts. In the past, Mandel has not apologized for his online posts, even in the midst of a heated campaign.
Last year, he quietly filed documents with the Federal Election Commission to vote for Ohio’s 11th District, Ohio’s most democratic district and currently represented by Marcia Fudge.
Mandel did not respond to a voicemail seeking comment.
Mandel has mostly been out of the spotlight since he withdrew from his second challenge to U.S. Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, citing the need to stay home to care for his wife, who is facing health problems. Mandel made the decision in January 2018 without warning to Republican leaders, who were trying to replace him with U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci, who was running for governor at the time.
Brown defeated Reinach, the only Democrat to win a statewide party office election, in November. Mandel left in January.
