After nearly 5 years of marriage, Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet announced their separation.

In a joint statement on Instagram on Wednesday, Momoa and Bonet announced their split.

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet have decided to end their relationship.

Momoa, 42, posted a joint statement on Instagram on Wednesday announcing their split. (Bonet, who is 54, is not on social media.)

"In these transformative times, we've all felt the pinch and shifts... Our family is no exception to the revolution that is taking place... "We are feeling and growing as a result of the seismic shifts that are taking place," the joint statement stated. "As a result, we've informed our family that we're divorcing."

"We disclose this not because we believe it's noteworthy," the statement said, "but so that we can live our lives with dignity and honesty." "Our love continues to evolve in the ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become…"

"Our everlasting love to this sacred life our children," the message said. Instilling in our youngsters a sense of possibility. Practicing the Prayer J & L: "May Love Prevail."

Momoa also included many photographs in his post, including one of a sunset sky, another of a person cradling a newborn bird while wearing a shirt that reads "May my soul yell love," and a close-up of the hands holding the young bird.

Momoa and Bonet's representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment from PEOPLE.
